News and Announcements

On behalf of the CMLA Board of Directors, welcome to the 2019-2020 Catholic Metro League of Atlanta basketball season.

As we begin a new season, please be mindful that our primary purpose is to help our young athletes develop as students, basketball players, competitors, teammates and, most importantly, as compassionate and empathetic young people in Christ. Our coach-ministers, program administrators, game officials, gym managers and scorers all work together to create a positive environment for growth and the development of our children.

We are thankful for our committed volunteers who all give generously of their time and talents to serve the families of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Their service makes the CMLA a great ministry! When you attend games, cheer for good play and sportsmanship from both teams and show support and appreciation for our officials, scorekeepers, gym managers, coaches and families.

We are blessed to have the opportunity to serve our Catholic community and thank you for your confidence and trust in our mission.

Ken Turner – CMLA Commissioner

On behalf of the CMLA Board of Directors, welcome to the 2018-2019 Catholic Metro League of Atlanta basketball season.

We want to express our sincere thanks to our coach-ministers, who generously share their time, talent and treasure to develop the young athletes in our ministry. We also offer heartfelt gratitude to our game officials, scorekeepers and program administrators who work tirelessly to create a safe environment for our athletes to feel the joy and excitement that comes with competition in team sports.

When you attend games this season, please support the athletes on both teams and show respect and appreciation for our game officials, scorekeepers, gym managers, coaches and families. Working together, we can be models of character and sportsmanship in athletic competition and an affirmative example for our kids.

We are excited and thankful to begin a new season of basketball. Work hard, be your best, and above all, have fun and enjoy the experience!

Thank you for your continued support of the Catholic Metro League of Atlanta.

Catholic Metro League of Atlanta

 Friday, December 08, 2017

Weather conditions in the Metro Atlanta area have forced widespread school closures and the cancellation of extracurricular activities in most counties. The CMLA has cancelled all games scheduled for Saturday, December 09, 2017.

We will resume our regular schedule next Saturday.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thursday, December 07, 2017

The CMLA Board is monitoring the current weather forecasts to be prepared to make a responsible decision regarding the status of CMLA games this Saturday. We must consider the weather across the metro area, as some parishes may experience more challenging conditions than others. If any one parish cannot play, then we will be forced to cancel all of the games scheduled for Saturday. The safety of our families and our officials is priority #1. As of now, our plan is to play all of our games on Saturday. A final decision to play or cancel will be communicated by 7:00 pm on Friday evening, based on the most current information as reported by the weather services and consultation with the directors of each parish/school.

We have a unique and very positive event to consider this weekend. Blessed Trinity and Marist will face-off Saturday afternoon in the GHSA AAAA State Football Championship. A significant number of our programs have athletes and parents planning to attend the game to support their schools. Given the historic nature of this game, we have made the following decision with respect to games scheduled after 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 09, 2017:

If you are scheduled to play at 2 pm or later and cannot field a team against another team that can field a team, the game will be a forfeit.

If you are scheduled to play at 2 pm or later and cannot field a team against another team that cannot field a team, the game will be considered a tie.

Coaches and Athletic Directors affected by this situation must contact the scheduled opponent and determine whether you will play or not play and agree on the outcome in writing. The home team will be responsible for entering the scores into eteamz, based on your explicit agreement. No games may be rescheduled.

If you have any questions, please contact your parish Athletic Director, as we will be providing them with updates.

Best wishes to both Blessed Trinity and Marist this Saturday afternoon!

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning, beginning at 4:00 pm on Friday and continuing through Saturday at 1:00 pm. As a result, we are cancelling all CMLA games scheduled for Saturday, January 07. Be safe and we will resume our schedule on January 14.

On behalf of the CMLA Board, welcome to the 2016-2017 Catholic Metro League of Atlanta basketball season!

As we begin another year, let us be mindful of our league mission – Build Character. Teach Fundamentals. Have Fun – and focus all of our efforts on the young people we serve in our ministries. Through the collective efforts of our fantastic coaches, our parents and our CMLA parish administrators, we can have a tremendous positive impact on the young athletes in our care.

St. Jude, St. Brigid, Christ The King, Notre Dame Academy and Immaculate Heart of Mary are now partners with our Play Like A Champion initiative. We have trained over 100 of our CMLA coaches and expect to train 100 more by the spring. Our goal is to have 100% commitment by the 2017-2018 season.

The 2016-2017 CMLA Basketball Season is dedicated to the memory of an Atlanta icon and CMLA legend – Jim Pepper. Jim passed away peacefully on September 23, 2016. Jim loved life, basketball and, most significantly, Jim loved kids. For over 30 years “Pep” ran the gym floors of the CMLA and shared his love of the game of basketball and the CMLA. He served as our league Commissioner, game scheduler, Chief Marketing Officer, cheerleader and assignor of basketball officials. Jim made fast friends and was beloved by all. He is now running the courts in heaven (HOPEFULLY, HIS CELL PHONE ACCOUNTS ARE DISABLED!) Jim will not be with us this year, but he will never be forgotten. Please remember the Pepper Family in your prayers.

We are all excited to begin a new year of basketball. Work hard, play your best and most importantly – ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE AND HAVE FUN!

October 30, 2014 - Commissioner Message

On behalf of the CMLA Board, welcome to the 2014-2015 Catholic Metro League of Atlanta basketball season.

Our league motto is: Build Character. Teach Fundamentals. Have Fun.

These are powerful words.  As we begin a new season, be mindful of our mission.  I encourage all of our leaders, coaches, parents and athletes to incorporate these principles into practices and games.  Our league is based on Catholic values and we all need to be committed to acting on these values, on the court as players and coaches and in the stands as parents and spectators.

Going forward, the CMLA will begin the process of implementing Play Like A Champion Today.  This program was developed by The University of Notre Dame's Institute for Educational Initiatives to provide youth sports organizations with guidance and specific "tools for coaches to use with their athletes, focusing on honing skills, while emphasizing the true character building elements of sports: teamwork, fairness, friendship and fun!"  This is a perfect fit for the CMLA and will help our league grow in a manner that is consistent with our purpose.  Please take the time to go to and learn more about the program.

We are all excited to begin a new year of basketball.  Work hard, play your best and most importantly, enjoy the experience.

Thank you for your support of the CMLA.

Ken Turner

CMLA Commissioner
